ILL3002 Project 3 – Advertising/Branding – Idea Development of slip on shoe.

For the slip on shoe I decided to combine these two ideas that I came up with during my sketching/researching phase. The idea of amazon animals hidden in a changeable sequin pattern and a pattern design of national UK animals.

I chose to combine these two ideas into one – since one in seven national British species face extinction due to climate change as well as human interference I thought if the child is more used to seeing these animals they would care for them more. While researching the problem I noticed it was reiterated that it’s important to have a garden full of national plants and if possible to just let the garden grow with little interference as well as install a small hole in the garden fence to let hedgehogs pass through without trouble.

I decided to incorporate this into my design with the holed wooden fence being on the rim of the shoe and the changeable sequin pattern would change from green to the animal pattern to show that these animals need natural gardens to help them thrive. I thought this would also be good with kids as changeable sequin designs are a current trend and  it could be fun for them to search for the hidden animals inside the pattern.

First I drew national UK animals then digitally developed them into a pattern.

I decided to print them on the risograph to add a texture.

I scanned in a sequin sheet and on Photoshop made it appear green to show how the changeable sequin pattern will look like. I also decided to overlay the sequin over the animal pattern to more accurately depict how the finished product would look like.

I explored a chosen idea I came up with during the initial research/sketching phase. The idea I explored was the Dragon Shoe Idea – since most children do not like being alone and are afraid of the dark I thought developing a glow in the dark character shoe could give the child more confidence as well as be an enjoyable shoe to wear.

 

I decided to add some texture to the design in the form of sequins – as they are a popular trend with children shoes and have the resemblance of dragon scales. I got the texture by scanning in a sequin sheet and experimenting with colours on Photoshop.

The green sequin design looked like it worked well with the SK8 – HI  shoe template therefor I chose to use it for my final design.

First piece of research I did was research the market by looking online and in stores.

Then I explored my ideas by roughly sketching them out.

I used Adobe Animate to make these GIFs, since I’d never used it before I figured out how to use the frames, keyframes, ect. through making this first simple GIF then making my final one.
